A moment alone
I was born a preacher's daughter.
It was confusing and alienating.
My peers would shield me from their blue jokes,
saying, "Don't let her hear that, she's a preacher's daughter."
I felt like I was living under a microscope,
with distinct expectations from my family and friends.
I would hide under my bed
to feel a moment alone.
I guarded and nurtured my inmost being,
keeping it hidden, without judgement.
I was born a preacher's daughter,
but I wouldn't want it any other way!

My pursuit of God compelled me to paint
"I'm always looking for something different that speaks to me.
I would be delighted if you see something that speaks to you."
